Hello Tosa neighbors!
We are moving into the Jefferson School neighborhood very near the school. We have a little boy who will be starting school there next week. Is there an active neighborhood association for this area? Any advice on the getting to know my neighbors and how to get involved in the community? We are excited to be living in a vibrant walkable neighborhood. We are interested in supporting local businesses, decreasing our carbon footprint and making our neighborhood a clean safe fun place for families to live. I am self employed and work out of my home, so I don't get to have that every day interaction with co-workers. Getting involved in our community is very important to us. I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks in advance to you all for your thoughts and ideas.

Here's the link to their association. This city is full of great neighborhoods. Here's another link that might interest you. To get to the main website, you can click on the logo. Thought you'd be interested in this page particularly, though, based on your comments.

New Neighbor Welcome! Sounds like you're near La Tarte, a great place for coffee and delicious stuff. I haven't been there in ages but it seems like the kind of place people who work from home might congregate. And of course the great Simma's and Balistreri's. Maybe Gas will invite you to try curling at Hart Park to work off the calories!

Welcome to Wauwatosa. You live in a wonderful neighborhood. That whole section of businesses on 68th north of Wells is a great place to stroll when the weather's a little warmer. Tine mentioned Balistrieri's and Simma's - both terrific. My kids, now young adults, loved Ultimate Chocolates for treats. You're within walking distance of 'Tosa Village and Hart Park, both of which are lively in the summer. There will be a farmer's market within walking distance of your neighborhood by summer (or so we've been promised - they had a kick-off event last year). Izzie gave you the neighborhood association Website and one for a local Methodist church. Here's the city Website, in case you haven't checked it out: http://www.wauwatosa.net/display/router.asp?DocID=1There are lots of other churches in the area. There are active Scout troops. The Cub Scout packs feed into one of the biggest, most active boy Scout Troops in the state, if that interests your family. That's how my sons, who were six and nine when we moved here, got to know classmates. Soccer is big in Wuawatosa. It appears that you've found TosaNOW, and that's a good source of information about local events. The difference between humans and other mammals is that we know how to accessorize. That's the first part of Tosa I lived in and my son attended Jefferson...of course, that was almost 18 years ago, but not much has changed there. The park is great and so are the area businesses. Be on the lookout for ducks crossing the roads in spring! We've even seen turtles crossing the parkway there. Great area!

Thank you all for your kind and friendly replies. We have been busy unpacking, moving things around and getting settled. We have been amazed with the warm welcome that we have been given. We are quite certain now that we made the right decision to move home to Tosa after 13 years in Waukesha. The school has made us feel very welcome and the neighbors are so friendly! We have walked to the candy store for much deserved rewards for hard work unpacking! Saturday we ate at Balistreri's with plenty left for Monday's dinner . We have ventured over to North Ave. and had Friday pizza at Cranky Al's, what a fun place to take kids! Checked out the neighborhood association, and am waiting to hear back. Thanks again for the warm welcome! Your new neighbor
