I have emailed a couple of you individually, but want to make sure TTS members know that I am aware of this craziness and that I'm trying to tackle it.
The tough part is, there's no way to prevent someone from creating a moniker that has a slightly different set of character than someone else's user name -- and that's what's happening her.
Whoever is doing it also is creating phony email addresses just for the purpose of creating a bogus user name that aims to confuse others. So, even with banning a user, they can just set up another account.
I have no clue why anyone would go through so much effort to do this, but I will talk again to our IT guys on Monday and try to see what can be done.

It surprises me a little bit that you wouldn't care if someone did that to you.
Yeah. That's how I feel. I expect to be held accountable for what I say--the good, the bad, and the ugly. But I really, really don't want to be held accountable for something somebody else said using my name. I don't expect people to have to go to all the work of paying enough attention to be able to discern the real me from some fake me. Gas is right, it's minor and insignificant. But sometimes it's all we have.

But sometimes it's all we have. It is insignificant, but it's a form of harassment nonetheless and its purpose is to render the site virtually unusable. "Drawing fire" is beside the point. Personally, I think everyone draws fire from time to time but that doesn't make this right. You're making excuses for this individual, Gas. If someone says something I don't like in the forum, I address the issue directly and honestly and not by creating multiple identities in order to dog the person. That's what most of us do. I think this person is probably using multiple computers, with some in public places like maybe library computers. Still, this might narrow the search a bit. Or it could be that he's just sitting in his bunker, generating all these new accounts from one network. The difference between humans and other mammals is that we know how to accessorize.
