So, the deadline for applicants for the new Economic Development Position was yesterday -- I meant to post earlier with a link to the website but the City already removed it from the Jobs tab on its site.
Does anyone know who threw their hat or bonnet in the ring?

How can we find out who applied? Would the city release the list of applicants?

No matter who or what - Wauwatosa is light years behind everyone else because of this fiasco. It will take months to get this person up and running. Add that to the years we have spent in uproductive economic development activity. Plus what happend to that new ED committee? Weren't they a stop gap? Asleep at the wheel is more like it.

Not true and Not true. I think Nancy Welch has done a terrific job of coordinating economic development. What's "unproductive" about the new businesses who have started in Wauwatosa in the middle of a recession? I think it's great. The ED committee has been working on the scope and focus of the job so that the job description adequately describes what we need. Comen, have some community spirit, Community Spirit.

One of the problems talking about this issue is each of us has a different notion of what economic development means and what its particular goals and measures should be. It would help me understand better if folks would talk about those specifics. Actress talks about new businesses starting in town recently. So that's one measurable thing. What most of us don't know is the role Welch and her department or the previous WEDC played in that. If you do, it would be great to let us know. I saw the job ad, but I don't remember it. Did it shed much light on what the job actually entails or was it more "you know: do all that development stuff well"?

I agree there has not been much from this so called ED committee.

The City removed the ad already and I cannot find evidence of it on the internet. If anyone has time to fire off an email to the City Clerk (official records custodian), the will release it in response to that public records request. You could also ask for a list of the applicants but I do not believe the law requires the City to release that until finalists are identified and then only those names.

Zorro believes this to be an expensive extravagance!
Zorro would do this for only a sangria or two.
No mighty industrialist would say no to a masked man with a whip.

The Economic Development Advisory Committee met last week, presumably to discuss how to proceed. (See agenda at link below) Anyone have any insight? http://www.wauwatosa.net/display/ImageLibrary/User/svanhoven/2010/EDACAgenda031810.pdf
