I'm very excited that my tree peonies made in transplant. In the fall 2 looked pretty dead to me.Tree peonies are known to be difficult to transplant. I even divided one and it made it.
Most other transplants are doing well.

Finally enough for a meal last evening. Grilled fresh asparagus basted in olive oil and cracked pepper. Top with sea salt and serve. As disappointing as the aspragus crop is this year - the Brits have it worse...Rained all weekend - accomplished nothing in the garden. Duct tape is like the force. The tomatoes are not guite ready yet, they probably have another week to go thn they will go in. This was my firsr year of starting indoors and I did not get as many as I hopes for. Next year I think i will buy some LED lights and a heated bottom for the plants.

Got my onions and cabbages in yesterday. Picked another nice batch of asparagus too. The spargel patch is making a come-back. Anybody know why my rhubarb was starting to bolt? Warmer than normal spring maybe? The stalks aren't even ready for harvesting. Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together

Roto-tilled the pumpkin patch, rock wall garden, kitchen garden and a patch for raspberry plants.
Planted cukes, pole beans, more spinach and beets. Carrots, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower (first time) going in tomorrow. Been hardening-off the tomato and pepper plants.
Should have radishes by next weekend.
Beer can chicken and fresh-picked asparagus tomorrow maybe.
I have a vision of walleye fishing too...

second batch of green beans, leaf lettuce and spinach went in last Saturday and the peepers went in today. 8 more bags of the garden mix from Tosa garden and pet will be turned over this weekend and then I will put in the cukes and cantelopes. The darn rabbits trimmed my broccoli and sprouts, are they (the rabbits) safe to eat this time of year? I will be shooting what I trap. No more Mr. nice guy and transplanting them down to the parkway. Payback is a muth.... you weasly wabbits!

The girls cleaned-out a rabbit nest the other day. Labrador retriever tid-bits. Half of the spinach I planted a month ago has been chowed by the bunnies. When I replanted yesterday there where rabbit droppings to be found. Fingers crossed for the broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbages. Marlin .22 loaded.... Duct tape is like the force. Carrots and lettuce went in yesterday. Same for second plantings of beets, radishes and spinach. Swiss chard, kale and basil in today. Mounded the spuds for the first time. First seeding of spinach is close to pickable. Picked radishes this morning. Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together

Fifteen tomato plants went in today followed by eight bell pepper plants.
Mounded the spuds a second time.
Sprayed a gallon of Spinosad mix after finding some caterpillars on the potato plants and brocolli.

I have just about had it with the bumper crop of rabbits this year. Fox pee granules worked for 3 days before them varmints ate all my bean plants to the stem. My rabbits must be a Mexican breed because the cayene powder plus garlic juice and soap doesn't bother them at all. I hope I ruined their rectums with searing heat. The last resort was chicken wire. That plan seems to be working. My cabbage, beans, spinach, broccoli and brussels sprouts are growing there leaves back. I'm guessing they will be 2 to 3 weeks behind everytjing else. My cukes and canelopes are growinf out and flowering nicely, the peppers pepporchini, hungarian hot wax serrano and sweet yellow bells are doing good. The tomatoes are in bondage and starting to flower. Three cutiings from the leaf lettuce I planted during the March heat wave so far and the newer plantings are about 2 weeks away from cutting.
If I could find my pellet gun I would be castle doctrine ing the rabbits.

Took this picture today. Look at how nice these pole beans are doing on their bamboo tripods. They're full of blossoms too. On the other hand - the limas are beginning to send out some tendrils but they're runts compared to the Blue Lakes. click on images to enlargeAny ideas about what's up? I am finally getting some flowers on my pole beans and egg plants. Most of my tomatoes are getting butt rot as are my peppers. Cukes and cantelopes are doing pretty good. Cabbages seem to be doing ok, but the broccoli is only now just starting to flower. B srouts are not doing much of anything other than grow big leaves so far.
Rabbits are still being pests, eating the leaves and vines of the cukes that stray past the chicken wire fencing. Can't wait for the cooler weather, then I will be traping, shooting, and skinning them for dinner.

Picked the last 3 heads of cabbage this week. All thats left is broccoli and peppers. Is it safe to shoot and eat the rabbits now or should I wait a little bit?
