I rode my bike past the stadium and saw the tosa east football team was practicing there. I stopped by to look at it. I'm not sure at all what they spent 4 million dollars on. The new bleachers are basically like the old bleachers with a few more railings for safety. Otherwise, the tennis courts look the same, the track is wider and the field is fake. Same old concession stand and the same old score board - you'd think for 4 million, they could at least get a new score board.
It is in no way anymore desirable for someone to use than it was before. It is not going to generate any interest in additional events besides what already plays there. I wonder if even Pius or East soccer will return.
The recent Milwaukee Magazine has an article about Mequon replacing their field with turf. They spent $400,000.

I read the same article in the Milwaukee Magazine. I think the school mentioned paid 450,000 for a turf field and am wondering how we added costs to reach 4 million. I'd like to see a schedule that shows how many more teams we have brought in to this wondrous venue and how it makes it all worth our money. Doesn't' anyone else find this odd?

Boondoggle.
Can we get a similar effort to beautify our North Ave business corridor (minus the fake grass)?

Gee, this makes me sit back and scratch my head. Wasn't it Didier who pushed to make this 'investment' happen. Wasn't it done after questions were raised about the conditions of underground water and sewer pipes? Wasn't it Donegan who did a BIG rollover and voted in favor of Hart Park's improvement while still noting pipes needed to be fixed? Seems to me most of the council members noted those concerns and yet still voted to ignore fixing sewers. I find this interesting reading. I remember reading about this a year or so ago either in this paper or in the JS. It's not a new problem.

What about the fact that the track won't be open for runners to use on weekends until 8am? And then I can't even have my power drink and a smoke when I'm done! http://www.wauwatosanow.com/news/53694247.html

This does sound a little odd? I know they added a new larger booth new grass that I just learned the school paid for and it seems like they added some tennis courts too? Correct? I noticed the stands are only on the west side of the stadium. Will the east side get stands too like it was before? Is this 4 mil in work? Maybe I am missing something?

I noticed that the east side didn't have any bleachers also. Maybe we ran out of money and need another 4 million to do the other side. That would be the visitors side...they can just bring their lawn chairs for now.

After you read the article, the artificial turf sure sounds fragile. Maybe we should have just stuck with grass just like God intended for outdoor sports to be played on....

I could never figure out the no smoking in a open air stadium. I remember when County stadium did that. No one observed it at the time..

I like the facility and don't mind investing in things that improve the quality of life for our community.
How would you like it if I lit-up a big 'ol Dominican while you were watching the game?
You would probably say - That sure doesn't improve my quality of life.
Take your smokes somewhere else.

If you wanted to light up in an open air stadium I would not have a problem with that. If you were rude and blew your smoke in peoples faces that is a different story.

Before we had a football field, stadium, track and tennis courts and after $4 million we have a football field, stadium, track and tennis courts. What we don't have is a finished park.

You do have to admit all the things you said we had were in a pretty bad state of disrepair.

I agree, but they were only in that state because the city refused to maintain it properly. I don't have an issue with some updates, but we spent more than most other similar projects other school systems did and we didn't even get new lockers rooms or a modern concession stand. When money is tight and we should try to make a $ go as far as it can, our leaders seemed like they took the exact opposite stance...

Where I come from... the "booster club" (parents and alumni) paid for press box updates, stadium upgrades, etc...
Was there any non-city support that went into this?

The band and athletic boosters reinvest the money they make from concessions back into the band and sports programs. rubber wrote:Was there any non-city support that went into this? A small amount of money was raised by selling bleachers. http://buyableacher.org/Kind of a joke.

Seriously, it's done? I didn't think they were even close yet...but this is just an observation from State St. And I had no idea the tennis courts were new. Everything looks the same to me. Maybe Hart Park is the Emperor's New Park.

Maybe it was $400,000 not $4,000,000.
We rode our bikes on the trail Sunday but I forgot to look for lighted tennis courts. Any chance the new courts have lights?
